Smashbox Primer Light – Lighten Up for Summer?

Posted on | July 15, 2008 | Comments Off

Well no, it’s not really new as such, Smashbox Photofinish Primer Light has been at Just Beauty Direct since Autumn last year. It is also fast becoming one of our top sellers.

So what makes it different from the classic, the original Photofinish Primer?

Well first up it is designed for those with oily or combination or sensitive skins.

Smashbox say

Our latest primer innovation! Perfect for oily, acne-prone, or sensitive skin, this oil-free, 60% water based primer refreshes on contact while oil absorbers provide a smooth matte finish all day. Light diffusers minimize the appearance of imperfections, while vitamin C and peptides help even skin tone and promote collagen production. Wear alone or under foundation for complexion perfection. In a new a square airless pump for freshness to the last drop.

My take on it back in October 2007 was

This primer is white in the bottle – but goes on as a clear finish. It doesn’t have the same silky feel as the classic primer, but it is very light and refreshing. Notwithstanding that, it still smoothes out fine lines and wrinkles (I just wish I could tell you how). The most dramatic difference for me was my pores. My nose looked so much better. It gives a beautiful matte finish to the skin, which made my skin look more youthful. It is perfect in our opinion for wearing under any foundation, but because of the way it dries (no stickiness at all) it is particularly good for people who wear mineral foundation.

I always thought that the classic foundation primer was unbeatable. But now I am not sure sure. Unless you have very dry skin, this primer is definitely worth trying. One other thing – I could always feel the difference with the classic primer, but unless I wore foundation I didn’t really see the difference (if you see what I mean). With this primer, I could see the difference to my pores and pesky lines before I put foundation on.

We have searched for the latest consumer reviews on it and have come with
Viewpoints.com
and
Make Up Alley (you do need to register first – and be warned it can be quite addictive for beauty junkies – I spend far to long on there!)

But they give you an idea what people who have been using the product think about it.

My view was that I loved the cooling sensation – and I didn’t miss the ‘silicon effect’ of the classic, SPF or colour adjusting at all. It gave a very soft (almost powder soft but without cakiness) feel to my skin and I personally felt that the craters on my nose which are far too large to just be called ‘open pores’ looked better even before I applied any foundation.

I have actually been using it with the Soft Focus Tinted Moisturiser – which to me is like liquid Halo. I apply the primer light first, then the Soft Focus Tinted Moisturiser then a swift and gentle buff with my Halo Fair. And the look I have for that minimum effort is a natural ‘no make up’ look which does last for the day. I touch up with the Smashbox Photo Matte Powder (fantastic but sadly discontinued) which dashes away any shine and (my bete noir) moisture under my specs and gives a cool and unruffled look to my face.
